Angling is a popular sport in Goa. The state offers numerous opportunities for sea and river side angling. A large variety of fresh water and salt water fishes are available all over the state. Angling being one of the most popular water sports of Goa, the equipment is available on sale or hire almost around every major beach resort. The quiet spots ideal for angling have made Goa a favored destination for anglers from all over the world.

Major angling destinations in Goa :

Around Panjim : Panjim has many good angling spots located around it. The city also has some well equipped angling stores that sell almost all the gear you may need. There are a few well known spots for angling around Panjim. These include -

The Old Goa Jetty : This is located about a half an hour drive from Panjim. This quiet place is a good spot for live baiting. A wide variety of fish can be found here including barramundi, bream, snapper, tarpon, grouper, and catfish.

Reis Magos Jetty and Rocks : You can reach this spot by taking a ferry across the river to Betim. The road to Reis Magos can also be accessed by the bridge. This jetty is located close to the mouth of the river, making it an ideal angling spot. The fishes you can expect to catch here include Barramundi, Snapper, Grouper and Sea Bream. November to January is the best time for fishing, especially for Barramundi.

The rocks in front of the 'River Rays' restaurant are also known as good fishing spots. The spot is famous for the rays that abound here.

The Fort Aguada : The Sequirm jetty is a good angling spot, but it is often disturbed by the passing tourist boats. The spot frequented by the anglers is located at the base of the hill just below the lighthouse. The view of the Panjim bay from the spot is an add on experience.

Angling at the Beaches of Goa :

The Agonda beach is among the best known fishing spots in Goa. Soormai, Mullet and Salmon are the chief catches here. The other beaches like Palolem, Colva, Vagator, Chapora, Baga and Calangute are also good angling spots. Fishing gear is available in all these spots.
