Goa has a lot in store for the adventure sports enthusiasts. The beaches of Goa are ideal spots for a variety of water sports and adventure activities. Among these, scuba diving and snorkeling are among the best loved activities. Both are excellent ways to explore the underwater life in Goa which is rich with a wide range of underwater flora and fauna.
Scuba Diving :
Scuba diving is a globally popular water sport that is aimed at exploring the underwater sea life at shallow depths. The word Scuba actually stands for - 'self-contained underwater breathing apparatus'. The diver carries the breathing apparatus which gives him flexibility of movement.
The sport has to be learnt properly under expert guidance. Certification is required from the recreational diving associations like the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, (PADI), and Confédération modiale des activités subaquatiques, (CMAS).
Expert divers can move on to specialized dives like night diving, ship wreck diving, and cave diving.
Physical fitness is of prime importance. People with heart or lung ailments are not allowed to practice or train for the sport.
Goa is one of the prime scuba diving destinations in India, along with the Andamans and the Lakshadweep isles. Underwater visibility is very good in Goa, the reason why the sport has thrived. Grande Island, Davy Jones, Suzy's Wreck, Tunnel Shelter Cove, and Locker Sail Rock Turbo are the popular scuba diving spots in Goa.
Snorkeling :
Snorkeling is yet another popular water sport in Goa. Like scuba diving, it is also meant for undersea exploration. However, it is relatively simpler than scuba diving, as it involves a simple breathing apparatus for breathing. A bent tube provides the diver fresh air as he bends down into the shallow water to observe underwater life. It does not require much training; almost any healthy person can engage in snorkeling.
Bat Island and Navy Island in Goa are known for snorkeling facilities. The facilities for snorkeling in Goa include all the gear you need which will be supplied by the operator. The accessories including wet suit, gloves, masks, and fins are all provided by your operator.
