The temple was built as a shrine for the safekeeping of Lord Trimurthy or Lord Dattatreya's idol. Trimurthy is the form of a deity that was formed by the combination of the three great gods namely Vishnu, Brahma and Maheshwar.
The temple is nestled in between the beautiful hillock area. Dense palm trees and intense green vegetation all around the temples offer it a soothing and calm ambiance. Every year, hundreds of devotees from all over Goa and other parts of the country visit this temple. Many devotees believe that the temple contains healing powers. People with unsound mind or mental problems are known to have been cured through prayers to this deity.

Every year, the Datta Jayanti festival is celebrated in the temple with great pomp and ceremony. The festival is celebrated in the month of December and attracts hundreds of devotees and visitors from all over Goa. There is extra rush especially during the festival days at the temple.
